SPIRALPE is a community dedicated to sharing best practice in high quality PE and physical activity. It has been developed over time through a close collaboration of many education, academic, sports and physical activity professionals to combine the theory with the practical. Here are just some of the people who have had vital input to the platform (it's impossible to list everyone).

• Nick Powell - PE Partner development director, Sport Coach tutor, occasional guest lecturer and former Chair of governors at a Leeds Primary school (for 3 years - including going through a Good OFSTED inspection). Nick has spent 10 years in the playground delivering PE, out of school and holiday clubs and now helps school PE subject leaders to maximise their impact and pupil engagement. He’s also got a great deal of experience in grassroots sports and linking schools and clubs to create pathways.

• Gareth Stoker – PE Partner's director of coaching, Sport Coach tutor and mentor. Gareth manages the workforce of 40 plus coaches working alongside primary schools across West Yorkshire. He also works with teachers in partner schools to help them build their confidence in their own PE delivery. Gareth spent 17 years as a professional footballer and has spent the following 10 years supporting primary schools with a wide range of physical activity services, ranging from fundraising; PE lessons; out of hours clubs and competitive sport fixtures.

• Ashley Jacobs, Bsc, QTS. Ash is a respected teacher and is head of PE, Health and Social Care at Lawnswood School in Leeds. He’s provided insight into the transition from y6 PE to secondary school.

Elliott Flowers, BSC, Msc Sports Coaching. Elliot is Head of Football Development for Wath Comprehensive School, with previous experience in the academy phases of two professional football clubs. Elliot is an expert in the theory of developing physical literacy of children from a wide range of abilities and is committed to building parental support and ongoing assessment for learning.

• Laura Slater, PE subject leader & Year 5 teacher at Churwell Primary School, We’ve worked with Laura for over 6 years now, helping her school to maximise the impact of the PE and school sport premium, through high quality PE delivery, lots of out of hours activities and inter and intra school competitions. Laura is a brilliant PE leader and Churwell is an exemplar school that cares about the health and attitude toward physical activity of all it’s pupils and it reaps the benefits of this approach. It has been a fantastically receptive setting in which to work with the whole school team keen to drive teacher engagement, staff CPD, pupil enjoyment and physical learning. It’s one of 50 schools which have helped us consider the many practicalities of school life and we’ve used this experience to create SPIRALPETM as a platform that is fit for purpose.

• Paul Ogilvie, Senior Consultant in Physical Education & Primary (3-11) PGCE Level Leader (FHEA) at Carnegie School of Education, Leeds Beckett University - Paul plays a leading role in teacher training and as a former PDM in the school sports partnership understands the challenges primary schools face in terms of delivering HQPE and PA. Paul has been a driving force in building a memorandum of understanding with a working partnership between SPIRALPE and Leeds Beckett University. The platform is included in teacher training and is used by teacher trainees on their placements. Paul is an advocate of the platform and helps us to keep it academically relevant. What schools across the country say about SPIRALPE

• Ruan Jones, Senior Lecturer of Physical Education Carnegie School of Sport, Leeds Beckett University. Ruan was introduced to us through a former PE student and has given us great advice about how to incorporate Teaching Games for Understanding into the Y5 and Y6 games units. This has helped greatly with the transition of students from Key Stage 2 into Key Stage 3.

• Stephen Nicholson, Steve is an experienced former primary head teacher and now works as a school improvement consultant. Steve has worked with PE Partner for over 8 years, bringing our services into the various schools he has worked at, some of which were initially failing schools which he was asked to turn around for the LEA. In the final OFSTED inspection of his time as a head teacher this is what OFSTED said "The headteacher provides strong leadership with a clear determination to continue to raise standards. Stephen has been a key advisor in the process of creating a curriculum which is fit for purpose.

Dan Wilson, Development Manager for Education and School Sport, member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for a Fit and Healthy Childhood and Active Partnerships National Advisor for Primary PE and Sport Premium. Throughout the development of the platform Dan's advice has been invaluable - especially his input around assessment for learning, leading to meaningful interventions and what 'Outstanding PE' looks like. We've also worked with the following stakeholders in the process to ensure the service we provide is inclusive, relevant and important: Change4Life, This Girl Can; Child Friendly Leeds; West Yorkshire Positive Futures; Active Schools; SportsLeadersUK; County Sports partnerships. Input to the content of the lesson plans is constantly submitted by our brilliant workforce, many of whom have been graduates and masters students of Leeds Trinity University; Leeds Beckett University; Bradford University; Sheffield Hallam University and York St John University. The platform is always developing, and we invite anyone delivering sessions to send us their ideas. We want to share best practice and develop better experiences for all pupils.
